Prospect - Huntingwood - Arndell Park

Prospect – Huntingwood – Arndell Park is a predominantly rural and industrial area, with residential areas north of the Great Western Highway in Prospect. Prospect – Huntingwood – Arndell Park is bounded by Bungaribbee Creek, Holbeche Road, Reservoir Road, the Western Motorway, the Great Western Highway, Flushcombe Road and the suburb of Blacktown in the north, Blacktown Road in the east, Holroyd City and Fairfield City in the south and the locality of Eastern Creek, the Western Motorway, Brabham Road and Doonside Road in the west. Prospect is named for the ‘prospect’ of the Blue Mountains that were once seen from a hill in the area. Huntingwood is named for the first English-style hunting that took place and the 'Woods Estate' in the area. Arndell Park is named after Thomas Arndell, Assistant Surgeon, who arrived with the First Fleet.

Settlement of the area dates from 1791, when the first land grant was made in Blacktown City. Land was used mainly for farming. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s. The population increased slightly in the 1990s, then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2006, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in average household size.

Major features of the area include Home Base Shopping Centre, Prospect Nature Reserve, Prospect Reservoir, H Laybutt Sporting Complex, The Boiler Paddock, Peckys Playground, the Royal Cricketers Arms Hotel and William Lawson Park.
